In the spring of 2016, my dad was unexpectedly diagnosed with a terminal illness. I spent that summer caring for and spending as much time as possible with him. This hopeless time resulted in emotionally stressful days where I turned to poor habits, like bad food and alcohol for comfort. By the time my dad passed, I was at my heaviest, and I was living an unhealthy lifestyle.
One year later, this unfortunate time was followed by an unforgettable day in which my boyfriend asked me to marry him. I found my dream dress and knew I had to do something to make sure I not only looked my best, but that I had the confidence I needed to walk down the aisle.
I have never been athletic. I’ve never enjoyed working out, and I was dreading the process ahead of me. At first, I was trying to find a workout that would force me into shape, but what I found was so much more. I took my first Shred415 class in February 2018, and since then, my life hasn’t been the same! After burning almost 700 calories in my first class, I left feeling rejuvenated, drenched in sweat, and unexpectedly motivated to come back.
I started to do a few classes a week, and after just a couple of weeks, I noticed a difference in my endurance. I was able to increase my weights and my ending warm-up pace, which made me proud. Friends, coworkers, and Shred415 instructors started to comment on the weight I had lost before I could even tell I was changing. This confidence boost and feeling of positive change motivated me to sign up for the unlimited monthly package, which is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Shred415 classes are now part of my daily routine, and as my husband would say, I am obsessed.
A 5 AM class before my 12-hour nursing shift is my new normal. I wake up at 4:30 AM and stumble into class with my eyes barely open, but I leave feeling confident, motivated, and ready for the day. Shred415 is more than a workout. It’s a stress-reliever, an endorphin booster, and a therapy session all wrapped up into one hour. The incredible instructors and managers at Shred415 keep me going. Melissa and Makiah are not only two of my favorite instructors, but they have been so supportive and motivating. It has meant so much to me for them to notice my progress and encourage me to keep going.
Just 6 months after starting Shred415, I have lost 30 pounds, and I am down 4 dress sizes. I started this journey to look and feel good in my wedding dress, but I have gotten so much more. After dealing with a rollercoaster of emotions over the past few years, I am happy to say that I have changed my lifestyle, gained new confidence, and found a stress-reliever that I love. I am eager to see where this journey takes me, and I am thrilled to be a part of the #ShredFam.
