When people ask me about Shred415, I describe it as a personal carwash. I go in feeling a little beat up or down, and I come out feeling like a million bucks! Shiny and new! Every. Single. Time.
When the Northfield Shred415 studio opened in 2013, a lot of my friends urged me to try a class. At that time, I’d already been a runner all my life; I had already completed a marathon, and I had recently PR’d in the half marathon. I did not need a “running class” because I was staunchly “anti-treadmill,” and I was confident my current workout routine was enough for me. But after a few months and a lot of buzz, I decided to take a class.
Two things were clear after my first class: 1) This was NOT a “running class” and 2) I was totally coming back.
I started out taking two classes a week in addition to my outdoor running routine. Soon, two classes per week was not enough simply because my Shred days were my best days. At the time, I wasn’t focusing on weight loss or body transformation, I was too busy recognizing speed increases and strength gains. What was impossible before was still challenging, but slightly more possible each week.
Every time I went in to take a class, I felt like I was a part of something bigger than my daily workout routine. You can never underestimate the person next to you in one of these classes: age doesn’t matter, size doesn’t matter, I’ve been and continue to be humbled by the people around me in class for years (people like the pregnant women who still kick ass on the treadmill)! The people I’ve met in class have become some of my favorite faces to see on a regular basis.
After becoming a full-on Shredder, I started paying a little more attention to what I was eating. Because I was working so hard in my Shred classes, I didn’t want to disrespect the work I was putting in. This is when it all clicked for me—I lost just over 20 pounds and dropped 3 dress sizes. Simply put, I felt amazing. Amazing but slightly concerned at the thought of maintaining this new figure! As it turns out, there was no need for concern because consistently attending these classes that I LOVE and look forward to so much has kept my head in the game and my butt in gear. I have been able to stay in a healthy weight range for over three years as a result.
When people ask me about Shred415, I describe it as a personal carwash. I go in feeling a little beat up or down, and I come out feeling like a million bucks! Shiny and new! Every. Single. Time. This is largely in part due to the incredible instructors who have helped me believe that I actually can do this.
I can pick up heavier weights. I can finish the running segment a little stronger than I started. They are all personally invested in making me believe that I can be a better version of myself. And I’m not done. I don’t think you’re ever “done.” I’ve found peace in the process and joy in the progress, and I just love it oh so much! Thanks to Shred415.
