From the moment I took my first class in the fall of 2018, Shred415 has always been the place that I go to work out all of my problems, worries, and frustrations. It’s also the place where I celebrate life’s big moments. It really has been #loveatfirstshred.
On Thursday, March 12th I was playing volleyball and tore my ACL, MCL, LCL, MPFL, and meniscus. After I got injured, my instructors sent me so many positive and encouraging messages. They reached out to check on me, and they pushed me to keep going on the tough days. These amazing human beings have helped me change my mindset on my knee injury. Shred415 is one hundred percent #morethanaworkout to me, it’s a family that builds each other up during the tough times.
I had set intentions to visit 6 different Shred415 studios and to join the 415 club. My hopes were high for 2020. Once I was physically able to get up and moving, I began Physical Therapy, and slowly progressed to heavily modified mini-shred workouts. It was extremely difficult, but I completed the Shred 30 Day Challenge!
Shortly after that, my whole world – everyone’s world, was turned upside down due to COVID-19. Wisconsin closed the schools, and I didn’t get to say goodbye to my 8th grade students. My home Shred415 studio had closed as well and I really struggled not being able to go visit my happy place and be with my Shredfam. The Shred415 East Side community is a second home and family for me, and now that we were stuck in our homes, I felt like those things were gone.
One of my instructors posted this quote, and it has turned into my new life mantra. “Life isn’t happening to you, life is happening for you.” Whenever I find myself in a negative thought, I use that quote to flip my thinking to find the positive in the situation.
I have continued to Shred almost everyday using the Instagram videos, and I have had to modify the movements less and less as I grow stronger. For extra inspiration, I created my own mirror and word wall at my house. Every workout I pick a new word, just like I would in the studio to focus on during the workout. My personal favorite right now is determined.
I may not be able to complete my 2020 Shred415 intentions this year of physically going to 6 new studios or joining the 415 club; however, I am determined to make it into the 415 club. I know that when I am healthy and able to walk into a Shred415 studio again, I am going to have a community of people cheering me on and supporting me every step of the way. I look forward to the day, when I’m physically surrounded by my Shred415 family. #shredfamstrong
