I had never found a studio or class that was able to push me out of my comfort zone and work full body while doing the things I enjoy.
I have been an active, healthy person for basically my entire life. From competitive sports through middle and high school, college softball and intramural sports, I have always kept a busy and active lifestyle.
My performance was high, but I was never the fastest or strongest athlete on the team. I’ve always been able to keep up, however that little voice in the back of my mind that constantly challenged my ability to be faster, stronger, and even thinner always haunted me.
Growing up in an Italian household, pastas, bread, and snacks were always a staple (which left me a few pounds bigger than I needed to be). When I went to college, I gained the typical freshman 15, eating junky food and staying up late. I didn’t feel my best. That’s when I decided to change my major from Health Science (considering a nursing degree) to Health & Fitness.
Since 2009, I’ve been working in the fitness field teaching spin class, doing one-on-one training, and acting as an overall basic life coach to most of my clients. I’m helping them find the balance of healthy eating, staying active, and motivating them to feel better—the way I did when I lost my freshman 15.
As most people experience at some point, I found myself running into a plateau, still feeling good but not as great as I knew was within reach. In 2016, I got engaged and that’s when it really set in. Why am I waiting to take it to the next level? I was 28 years old, working full time at the fitness center—I should be in the best shape of my life at this point!
My brother and sister-in-law are members of Shred415 downtown and invited me to try a class. December 2016 was my first class—I was immediately hooked! Until then, I had never found a studio or class that was able to push me out of my comfort zone and work full body while doing the things I enjoy.
At the end of January 2017, I decided it was time to join the “Shred to Wed” program. I started myself on a three classes per week Shred415 schedule Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Without changing any other habits, I lost exactly one pound a week and I feel amazing. The instructors at Shred415 are so motivating and creative.
