The day I met my daughters marked the start of my journey. Before then, I lived saying “No” to nothing. But after looking into their eyes, I knew I had to be the best role model, leading by example. I became aware that all the limitations keeping me where I was were self-created. So, I began breaking my glass ceilings. Starting with social choices, which influenced my health. Initially, I equated health with weight. In the first few years, I struggled with weight gain, loss, and regaining.
Then I found Shred—a unique place brimming with optimism, encouragement, and inspiration. Whether greeted at the door, coached, or running alongside others, the mindset inside those doors is to be and give our best for that one hour. I couldn’t help but believe in myself. Since Shred, I’ve transformed into the fittest I’ve ever been, losing 56 pounds. More importantly, I’ve learned a great deal about myself. There’s no secret to fitness, health, or life success. Every day demands commitment, showing up, moving, giving a little more than before, and being consistent. I’ve realized you’re never too late or too old to start. Upward spirals exist as much as downward ones. Each achievement fuels focus and commitment. This journey introduced me to wonderful people in the city—and most importantly, to myself.
